Anne Hathaway‘s ex-boyfriend, Raffaello Follieri will spend another week in jail at his own request, according to U.S. reports.

The Get Smart star split from the businessman in June (08), shortly before he was arrested on suspicion of unscrupulous business dealings.

The 29-year-old Italian has been charged with a dozen counts of federal wife fraud conspiracy and money laundering and will remain in jail until he can post $21 million (GBP11.4 million) bail.

However, Follieri grand jury’s preliminary hearing was due to happen this coming Friday (05Sep08), but he has asked for the hearing to be postponed for another week, according to Access Hollywood.

The date being pushed back until 12 September (08) means Follieri will have to spend another week behind bars.

It is thought he is stalling the hearing in a bid to work out a plea deal with prosecutors, rather than facing the charges, which could result in the maximum sentence of 225 years behind bars according to the U.S. legal system.

It was alleged earlier this week (beg01Sep08) by U.S. magazine Vanity Fair, that Hathaway loaned Follieri thousands of dollars over the course of their relationship, and even paid his $37,000 (GBP20,000)-a-month rent at his New York apartment until his lease ran out in June (08), just before the end of their relationship.

The Devil Wears Prada star bravely kept on smiling as she stood in the wet at the premiere of her latest film Rachel Getting Married.

Hathaway admitted her dress was pretty soaked, but she was thrilled to be showing off the movie in the British capital.

Meanwhile, Paltrow was forced to shun her customary high heels on the red carpet in favour of flats.

She said: “I hurt my knee just being silly so I’m in flat shoes tonight.”

She opted for a gothic-style look in a black column dress by Salvatore Ferragamo protecting herself against a rainy London night in a black fur shrug by Felder & Felder.

Instead of hurrying inside to get dry, Hathaway - aided by a group of minders carrying umbrellas – signed autographs and greeted the hundreds of fans who had waited outside in the pouring rain for a glimpse of their idol.

She said: “I’ve been rained on and almost tripped on the red carpet.”

Determined not to let the rain ruin her big night, Hathaway said she was feeling happy and confident following her high-profile split from long-term love Raffaello Follieri in the summer.

Just weeks after their split, Follieri was arrested and is currently awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to fraud.

While insisting she was single, Hathaway admitted she had recently met a potential new boyfriend in Los Angeles.

She enthused: “This guy I know in LA is kind of really doing it for me right now… I’m totally single right now, but I happened to meet a sexy guy the other day.”

In the film, Hathaway plays a druggie model who is fresh out of rehab and is attending the wedding of her older sister.

Hathaway has described Rachel Getting Married as the role of a lifetime for her and has already received Oscar buzz for her performance.

When the film debuted at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals last month, critics were universal in their praise of the Princess Diaries star.

Playing down awards buzz, Hathaway said: “It’s really cool, but it’s a little premature to get excited about it.”

“I actually did something that I’m proud of, where all of the intentions I had for the character made it to the screen.”

“For me, it’s a recognition of my dreams, this role.”

“Not to sound arrogant or cocky, but I’ve never defined myself by the way other people did. That’s not what they tell you to do in all the Lifetime (TV) movies, anyway. It’s always about ‘be yourself, be yourself, be yourself”.

“Well, the person I am is an actress, and I’m really excited that with this movie I feel like I’ve earned that title. I’ve certainly been striving to earn it since Princess Diaries.”

And it was the 25-year-old actress’ father who first grew concerned about his daughter’s dealings with Follieri. According to reports, Hathaway’s dad, Jerry, had the Italian businessman followed by a private investigator in 2005.

But the actress is said to have grown wiser to her lover’s dealings by the end of their four-year affair.

Reportedly calling it quits over the phone, she told Follieri: “You were the love of my life. I’ll always love you. You know that, baby.”

The 29-year-old businessman was allegedly busted by federal investigators just six hours after the call.
